Introducing me to you.

Hello.

So, you want to know more about me? There are lots of very telling things I could say: I like having neat toenails but hate cutting them, I am currently wearing knickers big enough to rent out to a circus company (and I like them), I always have a notebook around.

But I suppose there is something to be said for the bread and butter of meeting someone; don’t worry, I’ll keep it short. I’m a 31 year old lesbian – I am lucky enough to have been with my fabulous wife for nine years.  On this blog, she is known as ‘TMD’ – stands for ‘truly, madly, deeply.’  We have done a lot of laughing, exploring, worrying, and just being in the time we’ve known each other. I used to work at a rather large summer camp in Country A, and that’s how we met – she came over from Country B to work there in 1998.

What’s this ‘Country A’ and ‘Country B‘ shit, you ask? I am a semi-anonymous blogger; there are a lot of headless photos on my blog. I am a counsellor, and some might argue that is a profession likely to breed paranoia about anyone knowing anything about you. I’m not that sort of therapist, but still don’t want myself found on the web. Country A is where I was born, Country B is where I live now. I am about 3,000 miles away from where I started – on a different continent, across a big fat ocean.

So….ex-Camp Director, now counsellor. My current job involves play therapy, counselling young people and adults, family therapy, and couples counselling. It’s a little of everything – and known on my blog as ‘Operation Fingerpaint.’

I am also a qualified teacher of the Deaf, an accredited sexual health worker, and an advice columnist – all things I have sort of moved on from, but perhaps not for good. Friends joke about the number of careers I have trained for, and the number of religions I have gone through. (I’m Buddhist, if you’re wondering.)

I am, at heart, a writer and a counsellor – both of these things serve me in a deep, nurturing, and creative way. I adore them. I’ve written a few books, published a few poems…but have lots of angst about it all. Stay tuned.

And….a mom. This year I gave birth to twins, Coconut and Snort.  TMD and I wanted kids for years, and finally decided to try late last autumn – we chose to use IVF with donor sperm, and for me to donate eggs, and got pregnant with our babies on the first attempt. We are very, very lucky.

Due to the sleep deprivation, I’m not sure what else to put on here. My star sign? Favourite type of pizza? I’m a very open person, so feel free to pop in and ask any questions or just say hello. Oddly enough, once I started an anonymous blog, I ended up making some strong friendships from it….and am always on the lookout for genuine people.

I am, as a person, authentic, creative, curious, intelligent, hopeful. I am also a procrastinator, a worrier, and judgemental. It pains me to throw things away, and I enjoy making up my own songs – usually featuring the phrase ‘your mom’ sprinkled quite liberally in the lyrics.

    Hello,

I’ve stumbled upon your blog by accident. I would gladly link to your blog. Are you maybe interested in linking to mine?

    Thanks and all the best.

Thanks for visiting my blog on Brian’s (thecheekofgod) recommendation. He made the same recommendation to me as well, and I can see why. We’re both lesbians in our early thirties who love to write and who work as counselors. What are the odds?! I look forward to checking back here often! Take good care. -E.

Just found your blog, did a bunch of reading and think you are a great and entertaining and thought provoking writer! I spent years working in the camping industry in what I imagine is Country A (based on your description). The last year I was there (I think in 2002– I started in 1994 ish), as assistant director, I was a pseudo out lesbo. My partner (who is now my wife and the other mother to my child) joined me for that summer and lets just say it was very educational. We had lots of international staff where I worked too… I would love to swap “war stories” some time!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and that your babies are beautiful and the fact you can wear 2 at once has elevated you to the level of hero in my mind! I have added you to my blogroll and look forward to following your blog!

Hello there! *wave* I have just found your blog, apparently someone must have jumped from your blog to mine while doing a WordPress search. I’m 23 weeks pregnant with My First Bub and can’t imagine how I’ll feel meeting my little son for the first time. I suppose you just can’t describe it either…. meeting this wee little ‘stranger’ that you’ve never met but has been living and growing within you and must seem so familiar at the same time. Is that how you felt? I’m so nervous!

You have a wonderful, friendly writing style. I look forward to looking back through your years pre-babies :)

Hi — I found you through a post on cats and cradles…I thought I would drop by and ask for some advice..I am interested that you decided to go right to IVF and was wondering if you would mind sharing a bit more about your story. We are starting to think about switching to IVF but everyone seems to think we are ‘crazy’ as it hasnt been that long (3 ‘live’ insems, and 2 IUIs) and I am 30. Anyways, would love to hear more about your experience (or I guess I can just read through your blog history :)) — e
